Writeup of SamarthaRamadasar Charithram Calcutta{April 4th to 9th}

Writeup of SamarthaRamadasar Charithram Calcutta{April 4th to 9th}
[By Mr & Mrs Seetharaman]

Sri Ranganji’s Abang Sangeetha Upanyasam on Santh Samartha Ramadasar was well received by the Devotees of Kolkata during 69th Sri Ramanavami Mahatosavam from 4th April 2009 to 9th April 2009 organized by Ved Bhavan Bhajan Samaj at Thyagaraja Hall.

In our personal opinion, we were not heard about Samartha Ramadasa Charitam, the great Santh of Maharashtra who had lived in this yuga and it was an eye opener for those who deviated from Sanathana Dharma.

Sri Ranganji explained in details about Samartha Ramadasar life from his birth, childhood Leela and how he learned the Dharma from his Guru and finally became a Raja Guru for the Great Warrior Chhattrapathi Shivaji. Ramadasar Prabhav was such that even Shivaji’s father, Brother and sons were ardent shishyas of him.

We all heard about Ram Rajya was their, during threytha yuga but the combination of Santh Ramadasar & Shivaji brought Ram Rajya during the period when Sanatana Dharma has been almost entangled by Sultans and Mughals. Ulitmately we learnt how our Sanathan Dharma stood as a Beacon during that period.

Samartha Ramadasar was a great visionary who imparted Dharmic knowledge, Selfless action, Self realization to all sections of society

During the Upanyasam, we were surprised to hear that Santh Samartha Ramadasar as an Avathar of Lord Hanuman – His Nista towards Naistiga Brahmacharayam – The Master Mind behind Shivaji’s success, all due to adaption of Sanathana Dharma. Santh Samartha Ramadasar was the motivating factor whenever Shivaji was in danger with Mughals

Sri Ranganji stated that the Brahmam and Kshatram (Knowledge & Action) should join hands for any success, which we should not forget.

Further, Sri Ranganji took us on tour to many places where Samartha Ramadasar travelled and we felt we were the part of the event.

We should declare that Sri Ranganji is the 1st ever young Grahastha Upanyasakar, who bravely declaring the Vedantic truth clearly, effectively, infusing the message to the ordinary grahastha crowd for their easy adaption which we have rarely come across.

We foresee, Sri. Ranganji as 21st Century Avathara Purusha, who can save our Sanathana Dharma and will fulfill the vision of Adi Shankarar and other great Sanths..

Our Humble pranams and gratitude to whole family for their dedicated Seva and Service to our personal, national and Sanathana Dharma growth.

We look forward for another Satsang as early as possible.

The birth of Rama is celebrated as ShriRama Navami. The festive season broke out everywhere in Bangalore with the great celebrations. One of them is Sri Valmiki Ramayana Jnana Yajna which includes discourses by Dr.Ranganji and recitation of slokas in Valmiki Ramayana by Sri Jaishankar and Sri Bakthavatsalam. In the first day, the recitation goes still Bala Kandam including the Rama Janana and SeethaKalyanam. In evening, the Discourses of Dr.Ranganji was started with the address by the chief guest (Sri Subaraya Sharma) to the audience about the importance of Ramayana. The first day’s discourse includes Rama Janana Mahotsava. Every day’s program was concluded by Sri Rama Dolothsavam.

The second day’s recitation of Valmiki Ramayana concludes with Kouslya’s mangalasasanam. The discourse ends with SeethaKalyanam. This includes the importance of remembrance of Rama and power of it. The day’s discourse was fantastic about describing the love between Rama and Seetha and was concluded by the small note by Prof. Subramanian to the audience about the relieving the curse of Ahalya.

For the Third day the recitation was till the end of Ayodhya Kandam highlighting Paadhuka Pattabishekam. The day’s discourse was till Pithruvakya Paripalanam. This includes the description of the nature of Rama when he was told to go to exile. The description was so lively that every audience was driven to Ayodhya itself. Audiences were dumbstruck when Ranganji described the happenings in the palace before Ram’s exile. The fourth day’s recitation of Valmiki Ramayana ends with whole of Aranya Kandam highlighting Jatayu moksham and Sabari Moksham.

The day’s discourse ends with Paadhuka Pattabishekam. The discourse was marvelous when it describes the difficulties faced by Bharatha when he came back to Ayodhya with Shathruguna. The people turned pin drop when they heard the emotional agony of Bharatha in a night which was horrible to him. The discourse was worshiped when it clearly explains the decision of Rama in not accepting the kingdom.

The fifth day’s recitation of Ramayana includes whole Kishkindha Kandam. This includes sugriva sakhyam and vali vadha. The Day’s discourse was till Jatayu mokshm in Aranya Kandam. This includes Viradha’s death, Sharabanga’s Moksha, Rama’s swearing; Rama’s meeting with Agastya, Surpanaka’s conversation with Rama and Lakshmana, Vadha of Kara and Dhushana with all fourteen thousand rakshasas, the conversation between Ravana and Maricha and the adduction of Seetha. Telling all these things in 2 hours the listeners were unperturbed and eagerly waiting for sixth day’s discourse. Emotional silence prevailed all over when heard about the sufferings of Rama in forest without Seetha.

The recitation in Valmiki Ramayana for the sixth day is till 58 sarga of Sundara Kandam which includes Angulyarpanam. As all expected the day’s discourse was Kishkindha Kandam and beginning of Sundara Kandam. This includes a brief description of importance of reciting Rama Nama. The effect of chanting was dramatic when whole hall recited Rama Nama. The effect is that much that it equals the effect of reciting Aum mantra. Though the lecture was fast, it does not disrupt the excellence.

The recitation for the seventh day is till Prathama yudham in Yudha Kandam. Ranganji’s Sundara Kandam as usually attracts lot of audience with its enthusiastic favour. The crowd was calm waiting for the storm for the eighth day. Audience enjoyed the in-depth knowledge of Dr.Ranganji. Bakthavatsalam and Jaishankar recited excellently the Valmiki Ramayana till Rama’s victory over Ravana. The day’s discourse was only Vibhishana sharanagathi. The discourse was only for one hour. It clearly distinguishes the Ravana Saba and Rama Saba and explains the nature of Rama’s vratha that he will help the person who would surrender to him.

The Pattabishekam Mahotsava blooms with enthralling recitation and upanyasam. There was abisheka aradhana for lord Rama where viewed by lot of audience. The day’s discourse was beautiful in describing the happenings of Rama Pattabishekam. The discourse was concluded by the small notes by Sri Moorthy, Sri Sudheer Desh Panday and Sri Asvathanarayana Sharma.

Sri Moorthy said, “Even to talk in one’s own language fluently is difficult. But Sri Ranganji has mastered a foreign language (English) and delivers discourse in English very well conveying the message exactly.” Sri Sudheer Desh Panday said, “We are proud that Sri Ranganji did his doctorate in our university and he is a faculty in our university.” Sri Asvathanarayana sharma, the one who attended the whole program without missing even single element of it said, “Sri Ranganji talks through the blessing of his father. His oratory skill is perfect and it elevates us. It is highly pictorial taking us to Ayodhya, Panchavati, Chitrakut, Rishyamuka and Lanka.” The audience was fully satisfied with unforgettable emotions waiting for another lecture at the earliest.

In the first few days of Sri Ramayana discourses few members of south India Dharmik samaj again and again expressed their dissatisfaction to ShriRanganji that only one fifty people were attending the lectures while expected crowd was four hundred. Dr. Ranganji never bothered about the crowd and answered that quantity or crowd was not important to him. He said that he was highly satisfied with the quality of audience. He also explained that the purpose of delivering discourses is not just to make a huge crowd. Delivering discourses itself is a spiritual sadahana where both the deliverer and hearers have to get elevated. He expressed that that kind of elevation happened in that program. “Instead of pondering over the crowd, calm your mind and listen my talks on Sri Rama patiently, as your president Sri Basu mama does with a great devotion” said Sri Ranganji.

Still few members of south India Dharmik samaj were not satisfied with the reply given by Sri Ranganji and they went to such an extent that they in front of Sri Ranganji announced after the third day lecture that the response level in the audience was very poor and not encouraging. Dr. Ranganji could find out the real problem of these people and asked them not to worry about fund collection, as he himself would provide fund if targeted fund could not be collected through his program. But interestingly in last few days of this program, an expected crowd came and sufficient fund was collected to the South India Dharmik samaj.

Some people were in the view that after the end of examinations crowd increased. Few others said that crowd was less in the beginning as there was another parallel Ramayana-navaha happening in the nearby hall. But Ranganji neither bothered about the less crowd in the beginning of the program, nor overjoyed when the expected crowd came later. He maintained the same sincerity and devotion throughout all the nine days-discourses. People who attended also listened with great devotion and sincerity.

Ramakatharutha Saram(Feb 11th to 20th)

Ramakatharutha Saram(Feb 11th to 20th)
(Write up by Smt. KalyaniVenkatesh)
Sri Ranganji delivered discourses for ten days on Sri Ramakathamritasaram, a collection of hundred slo kas on Ramayana, is composed by Sri Sri Krishnapremi swamigal. The discourses on the first two days were based on Rama-tattvam and Rama-parattvam. Balakandam reflected Vishvamitra’s love and affection towards Rama. It also revealed Ratri devi’s happiness for having got the opportunity to see Rama and Lakshmana as she had always longed for the same. It also showed how the people of Mthila who were ciritical judges could not cast their eyes away from Rama. Balakandam ended with the wonderful description of Sita-Rama kalyanam.
Ayodhyakandam reflected the great virtues of Sri Rama, the relationship Rama maintained with his people and family members. It also highlighted the importance Rama gave to truth and Dharma. The affection between Rama and Bharata touched everyone’s heart. It stressed on the fact that truth is the foundation of Dharma. It also revealed the true friendship Rama maintained with Guha and grand feast that Bharadvaja had arranged. It was indeed a feast for the listeners.
Aranyakanda revealed how Rama stole away the hearts of Rishis. They could admire Rama’s attire because as Rishis, they too were dressed like that. They totally surrendered to Rama as they seek protection from Rakshasas who were constant threat to their rituals and penance. Rama pledges that he could put an end to that torture. When Sita is bit disturbed over this matter, Rama says, “if Ahimsa has to be established, kshatriya should hold his bow. Jatayu moksham was the pathetic experience.
Kishkindha kanda showed the difference ways of worship. It showed how God could be worshiped due to fear which is considered as the lowest level of Bhakti. The highest level of Bhakti is of Jnanis. Rama tries to prove himself as an ordinary human being on Vali-Vadha. Sri Ranganji quotes Rama-nama as the best medicine of the life, and that Rama injects Vali through his arrow. Conversation between Rama and Vali and Rama and Tara was heart moving.
Sundarakanda depicted Hanuman’s strength acquired by chanting the name of Sri Rama. it also showed how people can overcome the problems of life by chanting Rama nama.
This day’s discourse gave a description of Sharanagati at different levels and also made it clear that the aim of Sharanagati is mainly servitude. It also showed how Vibhishana had all the necessary features required for Sharanagati. It showed how Kumbhakarna wished to dedicate his heat to Rama and body to Ravana.
The discourse for the next two days were based on the virtues of Rama. when people sleep in the bank of river Tamasa, Rama says, “king can suffer for the sake of subjects; but not the subjects for the sake of king.” Rama makes every body stay within their limits. Ayodhyakanda could be called as Gita of Ramayana as it emphasizes Dharma to that extent. It also implies how the concept of Sama, dana, bheda and danda should be implied from family to battle field. Trijata- incident shows how Rama takes things lightly even during critical times. It teaches one to take life as it comes. Smt. Dhrushya Ranganji delivered an hour lecture. She gave a beautiful description of nine forms of Bhakti along with the songs from Rama-ganamritam composed by Sri Ranganji. The discourse ended by Sri Ranganji’s explanation of the fact that dasya-bhava is inheritant in all the bhavas and that Rama’s parattvam is all because of Rama’s virtues alone.
The ten days discourse ended but took us all to keep recollecting the virtues of Rama.

Tattariya Upanishad

Tattariya Upanishad (Feb 25th to Mar 1st)
[Writeup by Shri Ramachandran,IAS]

“Practice Vedas Daily; Practice well their prescriptions” says Shankara Bhagavath Padal. Our Spiritual Guru, Dr.Ranganji is not only reciting Vedas daily but also is practicing their prescriptions. Really we have been fortunate to have him here for the last 5 days and he has been kind enough to enlighten us on the glimpses of TAITTARIYA UPANISHAD, covering 5 topics mainly, Value education, Gurukula Education Vs Modern Education, What is Brahmam, What is happiness and Freedom from 5 adjuncts.

During his lecture, he clearly explained how our Vedas speak eloquently on human equality, dignity, fraternity, underlining the goals of life i.e. living better, living longer, happily, healthily, peacefully and finally to exit from the world in total peace. He also explained that how our Religion and our beliefs & faiths moulded a value system, as evolved by our ancestors thousands of years ago, had its profound impact on the future generations, crossing geographical boundaries till today and this impact will be there for generations to come.

His explanation of Sandhyopasana by Brahmacharis & Gruhasthas and how the great teachings of Lord Krishna in His GEETHA, the principles of Karma Yoga, Bakthi Yoga, Jnana Yoga are simply practiced by the doers of Sandhyopasana, without their knowledge even. Really wonderful! His simple explanation of our daily practicing Pancha Maha Yagna, Deva, Pithru, Manusha Bootha Yagnas and this causal practice by the mothers, while providing food to babies daily; Amazing; really.

The heavy topic, ‘what is Brahmam’ was explained by him vividly and lucidly, extensively quoting scriptures, making the subject light and lively. Ever simple persons like me can try to meditate upon Brahmam, through proper exercises and ofcourse with the guidance of our Spiritual Guru. His explanation that matter itself cannot move, as preached by scientist like, Sir. Isaac Newton and he explained in detail how such theories have their limitations and is devoid of wholesome. His theory of conscious principles over matter, after his explanation through examples, made us to realise the concept.

‘What is happiness?’, Sathyam, Gnanam, Anantham Brahma, and his explanation of Srushti, Sthithi & Samhara as Release, Establish and Withdraw and not as create, sustain and destroy, which is the normal explanation given by all, is very apt and his explanation made the words Srishti, Sthithi & Samhara to be more meaningful.

His explaining, “Brahmam’s very nature is knowledge, where knowledge is that Everything is in Brahmam, Anantham is limitless and Aanantham is eternal bliss, that is final.

Thus real happiness lies in spirituality, if taught by a preceptor and learnt by a seeker, as a science of experience.

In all these topics, his extensive quotings of all three Great Acharyas and telling how complimentary their Bhashyams on the subject matter was really a great one. This shows His extensive and in depth knowledge in the works of all the three Acharyas. Really amazing!

“Janthoonam Nara Janmam Durlabham” , among animals, life of a human being is rare. That is only human being is equipped intellectually to know God and realise him. Thus Hindu Sasthras urge us not to waste our lives but try to awaken our dormant spirituality by seeking the guidance of a Guru. Here our Spiritual Guru, Dr.Ranganji, while explaining what is happiness said, “pleasure and pain are inevitable concomitants of life and pain has to be endured to face good fortune without undue elation and misfortune without undue depression is acquired by a proper approach to things of the world. The source of all happiness is within our selves. So long as we grope for the source outside ourselves, we shall not find peace or develop the mental equilibrium.

Himself remaining a product of traditional Gurukula system of education on spiritual side, our Guru has also received education in management, science and technology under modern education system. A rare and unique combination of both Gurukula System of education and modern education system. Hence only our spiritual Guru is the one and only person who is competent to judge which form of education is the best suited for our soil. He has proved beyond any body’s doubt that our traditional system of education is the best suited for us through a scientific research, without brushing aside the advantages of modern science and technology.

My request to him is that he should not stop all this but go little beyond to suggest a curriculum for base level, primary level, higher, higher secondary and college level and to establish institutions to educate our next generation. This is the need of the hour, where we have children of higher level of IQ. Children of today are very much exposed to the materialistic way of life mainly due to advancement of Science and Technology. Their knowledge with high level of IQ should be oriented properly in our own interest and in the interest of the mankind in general. In short what Swami Vivekananda wanted to achieve for the mankind through our young and energetic Indians can be easily achieved by our Spiritual Guru, Shri Ranganji. He can create a New India, as dreamed by Swami Vivekananda. Swami Vivekananda said, “May the song of New India echo and reverberate amidst mountains and in forests and in valleys…..The whole world is a mixture of independence and dependence of freedom and slavery but through it all shines the soul independent, pure, perfect and holy”. With the young and modern spiritual leaders like our Dr.Ranganji, whom, I unhesitantly and vociferously address SPIRITUAL LEADER of 21st century, our BHARAT will lead the whole world.

With these few words, I conclude and I thank the organisers for having given me this opportunity of delivering this note.

Bangalore Navaham Invitation(March 21st to 29th)
